Ethiopian Evangelical Church called for help

Save the lives of our people.

Yishak Yohanes Dera is the president of the Ethiopian Evangelical Evangelical Church. The church, which is part of the World Lutheran Federation and is affiliated with the Missouri Lutheran Union and the Reformed Church in the United States, has sent a charity to work in the Borna area. This is one of the worst affected areas. He speaks to relief agencies, religious organizations and government agencies, urging them to "come to Borna and save the lives of our people."

According to statistics, in Borna, 420,000 people are in urgent need of food aid, while more than 400 schools have no water and most children have dropped out.

In recent months, more than 240,000 livestock in southern Ethiopia have died of starvation, and more than two million hay bales are needed to keep livestock alive.

More than 90% of Borna's 1.2 million people live on livestock income. Loss of water leads to loss of livestock and loss of livestock leads to loss of livelihood.

UNICEF warns that children are at risk for diarrhea from drinking contaminated water. The disease is one of the leading causes of death in children under five in Ethiopia.

Forecasts for the next rainy season, from March to May, are not promising. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, if another drought occurs, it will be the worst period in the region in 40 years, and the agency said in its latest warning: "Ethiopia is one of the worst emergencies caused by climate change. "It is experienced in the Horn of Africa."
