300 Million Seek Aid Worldwide!
Based on the survey published on the Humanitarian Action website, in the upcoming year, a total of 74.1 million individuals will require humanitarian assistance in East and Southern Africa. Of this overall figure, the crisis in Sudan alone accounts for almost 40 percent. The demands within Sudan and the broader region have surged since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, resulting in a significant influx of people into neighboring countries.
Sudan has seen a dramatic increase in requirements, rising from 15.8 million individuals in 2023 to a staggering 30 million in 2024. This includes both internal and neighboring populations. In West and Central Africa, a total of 65.1 million people are in need. The crises in Burkina Faso and Niger have expanded and intensified, leading to heightened needs compared to the previous year.
Turning to the Middle East and North Africa, there are 53.8 million individuals who require assistance.
The Syrian crisis alone accounts for 32.5 million people in need, both within Syria and in neighboring nations. In Asia and the Pacific, there are 50.8 million people in need, with the Afghanistan crisis contributing to 30.6 million of this figure. In Myanmar, the escalating crisis has led to an increase in needs.
The Latin America and Caribbean region currently hosts 38.9 million people in need, with 15.9 million affected by the Venezuela crisis. In Eastern Europe, 16.8 million individuals continue to require aid due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Taking a global perspective, it is anticipated that in 2024, nearly 300 million people worldwide will be in need of humanitarian assistance and protection. This is a result of conflicts, climate emergencies, and various other contributing factors.
