Thousands Flee to Ethiopia.
Sudan's 20-year conflict escalates with dire consequences as nearly half of the nation's 49 million population now require assistance, reports the United Nations. While official figures indicate 12,000 deaths by the close of 2023, the actual toll is feared to be much higher.
Since April 2023, over 100,000 individuals, including approximately 47,000 refugees and asylum seekers, have fled Sudan to seek refuge in Ethiopia, where an existing 50,000 Sudanese refugees already reside.
Nine months into the devastating conflict, the United Nations reveals that nearly eight million Sudanese have been displaced from their homes, underscoring the urgent need for additional support to address the crisis.
Moreover, the ongoing violence threatens to exacerbate humanitarian challenges in neighboring countries, such as Ethiopia, already grappling with its own internal issues.
The influx of refugees strains resources and increases pressure on humanitarian agencies, highlighting the urgent need for international cooperation to mitigate the crisis and address its root causes.
