The humanitarian crisis continues.
Nearly a dozen years into Syria's devastating civil war, the country still remains critical, top UN officials said.
The Security Council announced on Wednesday that Syria is still facing extensive economic problems, lack of political progress and the largest displacement crisis in the world, and 70% of the population is now in need of humanitarian aid.
Rocket firing and intermittent clashes continue on all sides' contact lines with a wide range of perpetrators.
In addition, ISIS is still active in the country and its dormant cells target military personnel and civilians.
Civilians, including those living in overcrowded IDP camps, are already facing a harsh winter as well as ongoing cholera outbreaks, fuel shortages, and skyrocketing prices of basic goods.
According to the United Nations, the scale of need in Syria is at its highest level since the start of the conflict, with unprecedented poverty, food insecurity and a lack of basic medical services.
Recalling that the 2022 UN humanitarian response program for Syria has only covered 47%, the UN Secretary-General announced that they need more financial support to deal with the crisis this year.
