World Migration Day

World Migration Day

Migration crisis or solidarity crisis.

Migration has a long history, although its reasons have not changed over the years. War and displacement, threats to life and the desire to live in prosperity and economic comfort have been the most important reasons and, of course, the most constant reasons for emigration in all these years.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Sunday, on the occasion of World Migration Day, that the increase in the desire to migrate has had an amazing acceleration in recent years.

He also stated that according to statistics, 272 million people migrated in 2019 alone.

New statistics show that the population of immigrants has reached 280 million people, which means that one out of every 28 people in the world is an immigrant.

According to this senior UN official, over the past eight years, at least 51,000 migrants have lost their lives and thousands more have disappeared.

In this regard, not long ago, during the United Nations conference in Morocco, the "International Migration Document" was signed by the representatives of 164 countries out of 193 member countries of the United Nations.

This document, which is called "safe and orderly migration", tries to achieve goals such as "combating the structural problems of countries that force people to leave their homeland", "organizing maritime rescue operations", "strengthening transnational action against migrant smuggling" and to ensure "access of immigrants to basic services" in the vision of 2030.

According to statistics, Germany ranks second among the three countries in the world that accept immigrants. The first country to receive immigrants is America, with a population of nearly 300 million, which now has 47 million immigrants, and Germany, with a population of 83 million with 12 million immigrants, is in second place.

At the end of his speech, the Secretary General of the United Nations stated that there is no migration crisis, but what the world is facing is a crisis of solidarity. "Let's protect our common humanity today and every day and ensure everyone's rights and dignity."
