Continuation of the destructive effects of the Ukrainian war.
The World Food Program (WFP) said in a Twitter post that it had been forced to cut 50% of its food aid budget to Yemen. "We now have to reduce this support to 5 million people in need of less than 50 percent a day and for another 8 million to about 25 percent," the post said.
It provides food to 13 million people in Yemen every month; A country whose economy has been devastated by seven years of war. The 30 million-strong country imports most of its food.
"School nutrition programs for 4 million people will be suspended and aid will be available to only 1.8 million people," the post continued.
The World Food Program (WFP) says it has cut its diet in Yemen, where millions are starving, due to severe financial shortages, global inflation, and the devastating effects of the Ukraine conflict, according to Reuters.
The World Food Program has cut rations for 8 million people since January this year, warning in May that it could be further reduced soon after raising just a quarter of the $ 2 billion it needs for Yemen this year.
The number of people living in near-famine conditions in Yemen is expected to increase from about five million in the second half of 2022 to seven million.
Disruption of global wheat supply due to the Ukraine conflict and India's ban on wheat exports may deepen Yemen's hunger crisis and increase food inflation. Inflation has doubled in the past two years in some parts of the country. Yemeni wheat stocks may be depleted by mid-July.
