4000 Km of migration on foot

4000 Km of migration on foot

The story of Aza, an Afghan girl.

Aza, a young Afghan girl, fled on foot after a seven-month trip from Afghanistan to Turkey. She is currently living in Norway and seeking residency.

The Turkish daily Hurriyet reported on Monday that the 16-year-old Afghan girl was detained by border police after crossing Iran into the eastern Turkish province of Van, but later sent to Norway with the help of provincial governor Mohammad Amin Belms.

Long walks and spending the night in cold weather and even the risk of rape and death are some of the problems this young girl was facing on her way to Turkey.

Aza, who arrived in Norway after a distance of 4000 kilometers, said she had now taken refuge in the Norway in the hope of a better life.

The Afghan girl told the media that she felt threatened in Afghanistan. So she chose the difficult journey of immigration.

Aza is not only an Afghan refugee who has reached Europe through these dangerous routes, but also thousands of young Afghans are suffering the same fate and trying to reach Europe through Iran and Turkey.

Turkish police have recently arrested more than 700 illegal immigrants, including Afghans, in coastal cities. The growing migration of Afghans has caused international concern.

Since the arrival of the Taliban, the number of refugees leaving Afghanistan has increased. Some Afghans are trying to cross the border illegally.

It is worth mentioning that in 2021 just in Van province, a total of 14,300 migrants and 500 smugglers, who had entered Turkey illegally, were arrested.

Turkey has taken tougher measures to prevent the influx of migrants from Iran, and has built a border wall. Turkish officials have previously said that Turkey does not have the capacity to accept more Afghan refugees.
