Report of the Refugee Protection Organization.
Since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, Afghanistan has been the only country where women are deprived of education.
In the beginning, the Taliban prevented girls' education above the sixth grade in schools. Recently, university education for women has been banned until further notice. The Taliban have cited the reason for this action as a violation of Sharia standards and said that women did not observe the Islamic hijab. Taliban also banned women from working.
According to the report of the Office of Refugee Protection in the European Union, the restrictions imposed by the Taliban in Afghanistan put practically all women and girls at risk of harassment and persecution.
The United Nations also emphasized that the international community should put pressure on the Islamists of the Taliban in other ways so that this group withdraws from its discriminatory decisions against women or at least makes exceptions in some cases.
The European Union member countries are working on the issue that despite such restrictions, it may not be possible to continue humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. It is still not clear what will happen to the widespread livelihood crisis in Afghanistan if international aid is cut off.
