Tragedy continues in northern Syria.
Two children, including a seven-day-old baby, died overnight in tent camps in the Syrian province of Idlib due to severe cold weather overnight, drawing attention to the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
Fatemeh, the seven-day-old daughter of Mohammad al-Hassan, died at Al-Rahman Hospital in Idlib, home to millions of Syrians who have fled the 10-year war.
"We were able to prepare a little for the winter, but we could not get everything we needed," Mohammed told Al Jazeera. It is difficult to provide work and income.
Frost and cold weather have plagued northwestern Syria for more than two weeks, with more than 4 million displaced people. About 1.7 million of these IDPs are housed in tent camps.
According to the United Nations, living conditions in Idlib continue to deteriorate, with 97% of the population living in extreme poverty and 80% relying on daily food aid.
The international humanitarian agency Save the Children said in a statement that the deaths were "avoidable and tragic." It seems that the world has forgotten the children of Syria.
