Dozens of Christians killed and abducted in Nigeria

Intensification of attacks and lack of government attention

Fulani militants abducted 46 Christians and an unknown number of their children. The incident comes three days after 32 civilians were killed in predominantly Christian areas of Kaduna State in northern Nigeria. Among those abducted in the village of Aguno Dotse were 16 men and 30 women, with at least seven others reportedly injured.

On March 17, shortly after midnight, Fulani radical terrorists attacked the village of Aguno Dotse in Kachia, abducting at least 46 Christians and their children. According to Morning Star News, two days later, in a separate attack, hundreds of Islamist terrorists killed 32 Christian civilians in Kaguru, Kaura.

Rev. John Joseph Hayab, head of Kaduna State at the Nigerian Christian Association, said in a statement that Christians were deeply saddened by the continuing killings and kidnappings in the state without any government action.

He added that the citizens of Kaduna are tired of rhetoric without government action to protect their lives and property." we want to hear and see the arrests of murderers and kidnappers, because condemning the state media in times of chaos is no longer enough. We need support." He said.

The Nigerian government continues to deny any religious motive behind the attacks, and the government's inaction in responding to terrorists has led to so many killings and kidnappings that some groups warn it could turn into genocide.

Security analysts say kidnapping has become a lucrative industry in Nigeria, weapons have been made available to militants in Nigeria via Libya, and in northeastern Nigeria, Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa have killed thousands and millions people have displaced.

According to the Open Doors Watch list in 2022, at least 4,650 Christians were killed between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021, up from the previous year. More than 2,500 Christians were abducted, up from 990 the previous year.
