Floods in Sudan have displaced tens of thousands of refugees.
Extensive flooding in recent days in 13 of Sudan's 18 provinces has affected tens of thousands of South Sudanese refugees in addition to its citizens. The flooding of temporary refugee tents and shelters has caused many to return to their war-torn country. Many of them also live in makeshift tents set up by the Red Cross in dry places. However, they are in dire need of drinking water, food and medicine. The United Nations estimates the death toll in Sudan at more than 288,000.
More than a month after the floods in the country, the challenges continue. The lack of sufficient facilities to deal with this natural crisis has faced the country with a big problem, and people need food and health care more than ever in the current situation.
Many refugees fleeing their war-torn countries to Sudan have also been forced to return to their war-torn countries over the past month, posing a serious human rights security challenge.
