increasing of harassment by security agencies.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) agents informed ten Christians, including eight who had been acquitted of any crime in the Dezful court last November, that they should attend 10 meetings with Islamic clerics to "lead them to the right path."

They were charged with "propaganda against the Islamic Republic" for attending a house church. The four were arrested for six months and their personal belongings, even their children's school supplies, laptops and cell phones, were confiscated.

Article 18 of the Iranian constitution promotes religious freedom for Christians in Iran, but the government nevertheless sees the growth of the church in Iran as an attempt by Western countries to weaken Islam and the Islamic regime in Iran. Groups of Ex-Muslim new believer Christian are often attacked, and their leaders and members arrested, and sentenced to long prison terms for "acting against national security."

Iran is an Islamic republic, and abandoning religious beliefs is illegal and blasphemous for Muslim citizens. Leaving Islam is a crime punishable by death. It is also illegal for Christians to share the Bible with Muslims. Religious propaganda is also considered a criminal act.

The Dutch-based secular research group GAMAAN also reported that among Iran's 80 million people, the number of Christians in Iran is more than hundreds of thousands and is expected to grow by more than one million.

According to the Open Doors 2021 list, Iran ranks eighth in the world in terms of persecution of Christians. The country has also been listed by the US State Department as a "country of particular concern" for serious violations of religious freedom.
