Emergency meeting of the World Health Organization to identify the new COVID-19 strain
The World Health Organization (WHO) held an emergency meeting yesterday (Friday) following the identification and spread of a new strain of coronavirus in South Africa and Botswana.
Earlier, British scientists had warned of the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus with 32 mutations in Botswana.
According to reports, many mutations in this strain indicate high transmissibility and resistance to corona vaccines.
To date, 22 people in South Africa alone have been infected with the coronavirus, according to Business Standard.
Researchers in South Africa say a new strain of the coronavirus that has recently been identified in the country and has caused concern due to high mutations could challenge the effectiveness of existing vaccines to prevent Covid 19 disease.
