Nigeria: Attack on Christians in Abuja

Eleven Christian villagers were killed.

Last week, Fulani militants killed 11 Christians in Abuja, northern Nigeria. They set fire to dozens of houses and shot at villagers trying to escape.

Many believe that this is a common land conflict, as the inhabitants of arid areas in Nigeria are increasingly moving south. But residents say other elements have emerged in recent decades that are being reinforced by a jihadist program.

The Fulani, who are predominantly Muslim, make up one of Nigeria's largest ethnic groups. Their ethnic structure is tribal. Many famous Nigerians - including President Mohammad Buhari - are Fulani. Fulani militants adhere to extremist Islamic ideology and cause widespread persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

It is estimated that nearly 100,000 Christians have been killed in the past 20 years, while more than two million have been displaced. The Nigerian government refuses to accept this, and Nigerian Christians have spent years trying to connect with the international community.
