Two decades of deadly violence against the church.
Reports say Islamic State terrorists from the West African province killed three Christians and destroyed a church in an attack on a village in northeastern Nigeria.
Kotikari village near Chibok is where more than 200 girls were abducted from a school in 2014.
Since the abduction in 2014, according to the Chibok District Development Association, after eight years in which 57 girls escaped by their own and the rest were released, 110 of those girls are still in captivity.
The Nigerian government "continues to deny any religious motive behind the attacks," said the US-based persecution watchdog International Christian Concern.
Nigeria is one of the most dangerous countries for Christians, and it is estimated that nearly 70,000 Christians have been killed in the past two decades.
At least 4,650 Christians were killed between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021, up from 3,530 last year, according to the 2022 Open Doors USA Watch List. More than 2,500 Christians have been abducted in 2021.
