Warning of increasing attacks on Christians.
Two unidentified assailants shot dead a priest returning home in his car after a Sunday service in Peshawar, northwestern Pakistan.
William Siraj, 75 years old, was shot twice in the abdomen while returning home with his colleague, Rev. Patrick Naeem.
The Pakistan's Down reported that a shooting took place near the ring road in the Golbahar area of the city, killing Rev. Siraj and wounding his colleague Rev.Naeem has been released from the hospital due to minor injuries.
"We are determined to protect minorities," said Abbas Ahsan, the capital's police officer, calling it a "terrorist attack".
On Saturday, Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad warned of possible terrorist attacks across the country over the next two months, according to the Times of India. Security agencies have been informed of the resumption of militant activity in the area.
Reuters reported that the northwestern part of the country, adjacent to Afghanistan, has seen an increase in militant attacks against security forces in recent days, with many Islamic groups close to the Afghan Taliban claiming responsibility.
In 2013, at least 81 Christians were killed after two suicide bombers blew themselves up at a Pakistani church in Peshawar.
