Persecution of new believers in Uganda continues

Death of a Ex-Muslim christian by family members.

Sangando was a former imam of a mosque who converted to Christianity in 2016. On January 12, he returned to Namotiba for the first time since leaving in 2016 to visit his family. He has been attacked by his family members since his arrival. Neighbors who hear loud shouts alert the police.

The priest was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital, where doctors said he was in critical condition due to heavy blood loss and the severity of the stab wounds.

According to Christian Headlines, Bashir Sangando, 35, died on January 25 from severe head, back and arm injuries.

Sangando gave his heart to Christ in May 2016. He spent a few months at a Bible college, then worked as a priest. Of him four children are left, aged two to ten.

Muslims make up only 14% of Uganda's population, which is highly concentrated in the eastern part of the country. Christians make up 82 percent of the country's population.

An indigenous Islamist insurgent movement is rooted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which encourages Ugandan radicals to increase pressure on Christians. From 2018, the intensity of activity, and persecution "They have risen sharply against Christians, especially ex-Muslim new believers.
