World Food Program: Afghanistan is turning into a major humanitarian crisis.
The head of the World Food Program (WFP) has warned that the people of Afghanistan are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, warning that the country is facing a major humanitarian crisis.
At a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, David Bezley, director of the World Food Program, warned that nearly half of Afghanistan's population was facing a severe hunger crisis.
He said the people of Afghanistan needed immediate help.
Speaking at the Geneva summit online from Kabul, the senior official said Afghanistan was turning into a major humanitarian crisis.
According to the United Nations, drought, war, the outbreak of the Corona virus and the economic crisis have left nearly half of Afghanistan's population facing a hunger crisis.
According to the United Nations, this number is the highest they have recorded in the last 10 years.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres tweeted on Tuesday that a humanitarian catastrophe was taking place in Afghanistan and that countries around the world needed to take action.
"I call on the world to take action and fund our efforts to support the most vulnerable in Afghanistan," Guterres said.
The World Food Program (WFP) has warned that more than half of the country's population is facing acute food insecurity, with millions of people, including children, at risk of death.
