The number of hungry people will reach nine million.
"One million people are on the brink of being displaced by the drought, and this number serves as a wake-up call for Somalia," said Mohamed Abdi, director of the NRC in Somalia.
He also added: "Hunger is now all over the country. We are seeing more and more families being forced to leave their homes because there is literally no water or food left in their villages. Financial aid, before it is too late, should be increased urgently."
Somalia is experiencing an unprecedented two-year dry spell - a situation not seen in 40 years - while no rain is forecast for the fifth consecutive season, which is also displacing more families.
The number of people facing critical levels of hunger in Somalia is expected to rise from around 5 million to more than 7 million in the coming months, exacerbated by the effects of climate change and rising food prices due to the conflict in Ukraine.
According to 2019 data based on research and ranking by the Global Adaptation Initiative Center at the University of Notre Dame, Somalia ranks second in the world in terms of climate vulnerability.
