Refugees at risk of forced return.
Nearly 11 years after the start of the Syrian Revolution and escalating violence, some 1.5 million refugees remain in Lebanon, accounting for nearly a quarter of Lebanon's total population, the highest proportion of refugees in the world.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government has reclaimed much of its lost territory, and some countries have begun to point to a reduction in armed conflict, saying it is time for Syrian refugees to return home.
There is an urgent humanitarian need for international actors to respond to these trends, increase the funds available to support Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and ensure that additional funds are used as efficiently as possible.
Syrian refugees in Lebanon need help and support, not more pressure to leave. Statistics show that only 0.8% of Syrian refugees in Lebanon are thinking of returning to Syria.
The best way to help them is to listen to the voices of refugees themselves and increase the proportion of funds for refugee groups.
