The UN Secretary-General condemned the Taliban and warned of Afghanistan's economic collapse.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday (October 11th) condemned the Taliban's broken promises to women and girls in Afghanistan and called on the international community to inject liquidity into the country to prevent economic collapse.
"I am very concerned that the promises made by the Taliban to Afghan women and girls will not be fulfilled," she told the media at UN headquarters.
"I urge the Taliban to live up to their promises to women and girls and to live up to their commitments on human rights and international law," she added.
The UN official stressed that they would not abandon these issues and assured that the UN was talking to Taliban leaders about these issues every day.
The Taliban has been in power in Afghanistan since mid-August but still has no international legitimacy.
"Following promises, the promises of women and girls rights in Afghanistan will be shattered," said Antonio Guterres, noting that the average school time in Afghanistan has risen from six to 10 years since 2001.
