UN called for cooperation.
Niger is located along complex migration routes and is also affected by violence from neighboring Burkina Faso and Mali, which hosts hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
At the same time, many others on their way to North Africa are often stranded in the desert, abused by smuggling groups, and in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Local authorities and civil society, despite scarce resources, have embraced forced migrants and displaced persons.
IDPs have different needs and characteristics. They are wide range, including migrants on irregular routes and situations, asylum seekers, refugees, victims of trafficking, and children separated from their parents.
According to a recent study published by the IOM and the Niger Ministry of Environment, environmental and climate crises are intensifying, affecting people's livelihoods, and forcing many people to flee their homes.
UN officials also called on relevant organizations to work with humanitarian organizations to help reduce the impact of climate change on forced migration and displacement.
The organization called for more international support to address the challenges of migrants, refugees and displaced people in Niger and vulnerable host communities. "Niger deserves much more help and cooperation from the international community because the country lacks the resources to meet the humanitarian challenges of instability in neighboring countries," the UNHCR said.
The complexity of the refugee and their situation in Niger requires a comprehensive response that focuses on human well-being and rights, reduces vulnerabilities, and provides appropriate assistance to migrants, asylum seekers, refugees and displaced persons.
