Twelve asylum seekers die in Turkey

The cold took the lives of asylum seekers.

Turkish media reported the death of twelve asylum seekers on their way from Turkey to Greece due to the cold.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu posted on his Twitter account yesterday photos of migrants who had died on their way from Greece to Turkey.

Following that, the Governor of Edirne, issued a statement announcing: ‌ Two more bodies of illegal immigrants who died of frostbite after being deported by Greek border guards were found by rescue units.

Accordingly, an illegal immigrant who was taken to a government hospital also lost his life.

The Edirne governor's office had previously announced the discovery of nine bodies belonging to the migrants in the area.

Euronews also published the tweet of Turkish Minister Suleyman Soylu following the news of the twelve immigrants.

The Turkish-Greek route is one of the main crossings for Asian and Middle Eastern migrants to European countries. Most migrants from Asia, Africa and the Middle East try to enter Greece by land or sea. With the arrival of the cold and icy season and the sharp drop in temperature, this route is considered one of the most dangerous routes.
