China: Jona Home was shut down

Deactivation details of the main Christian website.

Jona Home, an old Christian website that has been providing services to believers for the past 21 years, was recently shut down by the Chinese Communist Party as part of the government's ongoing efforts to fight Christianity.

On April 12, an announcement was made on the home page of  Jona Home: “For reasons known to all, our Web site is no longer able to serve Christian brothers and sisters. Thank you for your support over the past 21 years."

"With the deactivation of this website, our services will certainly not be stopped, so this does not make any sense for our faith services," the website continued. "We will continue on our way."

The China Religious Affairs Administration (SARA) has announced new measures to curb all forms of religious activity, according to CBN News.

Churches, colleges, and denominations that intend to offer online worship services are now required to obtain a license for online religious information services.

In addition, live broadcasts or online recordings of religious ceremonies are prohibited. The new measures came into force on March 1, 2022, and prohibit the organization or individual from collecting donations "in the name of Christianity."

"The closure of Jona Home shows the extent of the repression of Christianity by the Chinese authorities. I am deeply saddened by the closure of such a website," said pastor Francis Liu, the head of the Chinese Christian Justice Association. "This shows us how the Chinese government take any action against the persecution of Christians and the fight against the spread of the word of God"

In 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping launched the " Sinicization " project as a plan to assimilate religious groups by integrating them into a unified national cultural identity with Chinese characteristics and Communist Party's socialism and ideology.

China ranks 17th on the 2022 Open Doors watch list.
