The tragedy of the immigrants' death continues.
Dozens of people have been killed when a boat carrying migrants capsized in the Mediterranean, according to the United Nations and Doctors Without Borders. (MSF)
"More than 90 people have died in another tragedy in the Mediterranean," the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) director Filippo Grande said on Twitter on Sunday.
On Saturday, a commercial oil tanker rescued four survivors aboard a lifeboat, according to Médecins Sans Frontières.
Survivors said they had been on a boat carrying about 100 people for at least four days. About 96 people are reported to have drowned. The boat is said to have sailed from Libya to Europe.
(MSF) says the survivors are "in dire need of protection and care" and should not be returned to Libya.
"No survivors should be returned to a place where they are at risk of arrest, violence and ill-treatment," officials said.
Libya is an important transit country for migrants and refugees from Africa and the Middle East who want to reach Europe via the Mediterranean.
If the refugees are returned to Libya, they will be resettled in concentration camps. Human rights activists have repeatedly criticized the living conditions in the camps.
Filippo Grande called on the European Union to take action. "Europe has proven that it can be generous ... and has accepted four million asylum seekers from Ukraine," he said. Europe must now, as soon as possible, think of appropriate action for other asylum seekers and migrants in need.
