Greece: Migrants' bodies found at sea

Increasing the death rate of asylum seekers

Residents of the island of Lisbos in Greece found the bodies of a group of migrants in the northeastern part of the island on Tuesday morning. Greek media have reported on the start of the operation and the search for the Greek Coast Guard.

Residents of the island of Lisbos in Greece found the bodies of migrants on the island's beach on Tuesday morning. Four bodies were brought ashore by water waves, and two more were later found in the sea. The drowned migrants are said to have been three women and three men.

The migrants are believed to have died after their boat sank. Greek state radio and television said it was not yet clear when the boat capsized.

Immigrants are constantly trying to reach the Greek islands, and then the European Union in old and unsuitable boats. Bad weather conditions make crossing this sea more difficult.

According to statistics, in 2021, at least 1146 people lost their lives. According to research by the International Organization for Migration, the increase in the number of asylum seekers death is mainly due to the inadequacy of search and rescue operations by European countries.
