Refugee situation in Bangladesh

(UNHCR) has condemned the attack on Rohingya refugees in refugee camps in Bangladesh.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement on Friday that an attack on a Rohingya camp this morning (Friday) killed at least seven people and injured an unknown number of Rohingya refugees.
The agency also called on the Bangladeshi government to increase security at Rohingya refugee camps and punish the perpetrators of the violent attacks in accordance with the law.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Rohingya Muslims have fled to Bangladesh for security, and about 80 percent of them are women and children.
Two groups of Rohingya asylum seekers clashed in a camp in southern Bangladesh on Friday, killing seven people and injuring 10 others, according to reports.
According to Bangladeshi officials, about 700,000 Rohingya Muslims have entered Bangladesh since August 2017, while about 400,000 Rohingya Muslims previously lived in various parts of Bangladesh.
More than 900,000 Rohingya Muslims are currently being held in refugee camps in Bangladesh's Kags Bazaar.  Nearly 688,000 of them came to Bangladesh after a new round of violence began in Myanmar in late August last year.
Many Myanmar people consider the Rohingya to be illegal immigrants and therefore suffer from discrimination against them.  The Myanmar government treats the Rohingya as stateless and does not grant them citizenship.  Rohingya face strict restrictions;  Including restrictions on transportation, access to medical and educational facilities.
