China's new policy towards churches.
Rev. Bob Fu, who escaped persecution in China in 1997, founded China Aid, a Texas-based non-profit organization that promotes religious freedom for all. His report to USA News says that the Chinese Communist Party is trying to "recreate" spiritual beliefs in order to conform to its ideologies.
Fu added that the attempt to sinicize Christianity focuses on "control" and seeks to portray Christianity with the government at its center. That is why we are seeing the replacement of the portraits of Jesus with Mao and Xi in government-approved churches.
"Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government has intensified the persecution of believers with a 'sinicization' campaign or the re-creation of religion to better align with the Chinese Communist Party's aspirations," said Fu.
According to Fu, the Sinicization of Christianity campaign is directly linked to the escalation of persecution of domestic churches.
Sinicization of Christianity includes methods and policies by which the chinese government forces the churches to align their principles and views with the national views, ancient Chinese ideology, and socialist approaches of the Chinese Communist Party. This approach is in fact an attempt to transition from Christianity to Chinese Christianity in the areas controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.
The communist regime has reached this key stage in the distortion of the Christian faith through years of persecution. Between 2020 and 2021, more than 900 crosses were removed from churches and the Bibles confiscated. In addition to destroying the crosses, the party attacked and closed many house churches, including state churches.
