United Nations report on the situation of children

Shocking statistics of serious violations of children's rights

On Monday, the United Nations released its annual report on children and armed conflict, which provides shocking details of the various forms of violence against children and violations of their rights around the world in 2021.

The report lists approximately 24,000 serious violations against children, including an average of 65 violations of children's rights per day. Killing and mutilation of children are the most serious of these cases, followed by employment and use of children and preventing their access to humanitarian services among other cases related to the violation of children's rights.

According to this report, cross-border conflicts and inter-communal violence, especially in the Lake Chad Basin and the Central Coast of Africa, have had a significant impact on the lives and livelihoods of children.
.
In this report, the regions that witnessed the most violations against children in 2021 are Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Somalia, Syria, and Yemen.
.
Kidnapping, and sexual violence, including rape, are two types of violations of children's rights that have increased sharply by 20% in 2021.

More than 2,800 children have been detained because of their real or false connection to the conflicting parties, which makes them especially vulnerable to torture and sexual violence.

The report mentions a total of 23,982 serious offenses against children. For 15% of these violations, the perpetrators have not yet been identified.

At least 5,242 girls and 13,663 boys have been victims of serious human rights violations in 21 countries.

8,070 children have been killed or maimed by explosive remnants of explosive devices (IEDs) and landmines.

About 6,310 child soldiers are forced to serve the warring parties.

3945 cases of lack of access to humanitarian aid have been confirmed.
