Venezuelan refugees

Venezuelan refugees in Ecuador.

Ecuador is the third host country for Venezuelans: more than 400,000 have settled since 2015. However, in recent years, Venezuelans have encountered greater obstacles to access livelihood opportunities and basic services as a result of changes in migration policies and increases in levels of xenophobia (56% of people surveyed claimed to have experienced discrimination at least once) and the impact of COVID-19, which has left more than 740,000 people in need of humanitarian aid.

“Life goes to extremely difficult for Venezuelans, even after reaching neighboring countries.  While Latin American countries such as Ecuador have taken in large numbers (despite limited funding and international support), a mix of divergent migration policies, overburdened national systems, and the effects of COVID-19 are putting pressure on their populations. answer's capacity.  We call on the international community to allocate sufficient funds to develop a comprehensive response to the crisis in Venezuela, based on the needs of the population in the places where it is located.

 Requirements in this area:

Multipurpose cash transfers combined with financial education and security training, to allow Venezuelans to meet their priority needs, avoiding negative coping mechanisms.

Food security, through the delivery of food packages to homes and the direct provision of dishes in community kitchens to combat hunger.

Protection issues, including prevention of gender-based violence and child protection activities, as well as case management for vulnerable populations.

Early childhood development, by creating safe spaces for children from 0 to 5 years old, involving educators and caregivers to promote stimulation, autonomy, freedom of movement and children's understanding of their own body.
