One million Ukrainian forced to leave country

Eastern Europe on the verge of human crisis.

One week after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grande said the seven-day conflict had forced one million Ukrainians to flee to neighboring countries.

According to the United Nations, more than 800,000 civilians have fled Ukraine.

The European Union has eased its refugee laws and says its member states will welcome refugees with "open arms".

Asylum seekers, mostly women and children, cross the borders of neighboring western countries such as Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova on a daily and continuous basis.

The United Nations said on Tuesday that more than 830,000 Ukrainians had entered the country. According to the United Nations, Poland has so far accepted more than 453,000 asylum seekers. The Polish government says another 50,000 people enter the country every day.

69,600 people who have moved from Ukraine to neighboring Western countries have moved from these countries to other countries in Europe.

During the Ukraine crisis in 2015, 1.3 million people sought refuge in other European countries. The organization predicts that the current war will displace 12 million people inside Ukraine, who will need help. Severe cold, lack of food resources and lack of heating equipment are among the problems that threaten the lives of Ukrainian asylum seekers and refugees despite the dangers of war.
