The number of displaced in Ukraine reached 8 million

immigration increasing is forecast in the coming months.

According to figures released by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Thursday, more than six million people have fled the country since Russia began invading Ukraine on February 24.

According to the website belonging to this agency, as of May 11 of this year, a total of 6,297,705 people have been displaced. Many emigrated to neighboring countries and continued their journey from there. Most Ukrainian asylum seekers live in Poland.

90% of IDPs are women and children. Because Ukrainian men between the ages of 18 and 60 are eligible for military service and are not allowed to leave the country.

Another eight million internally displaced people have been forced to flee their homes, according to the International Organization for Migration. However, according to statistics, the number of people leaving Ukraine has dropped significantly since the beginning of the war.

In March alone, nearly 3.4 million Ukrainians fled the country, down from about 1.5 million in April.

About 1.6 million Ukrainians have returned home so far, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Many of them plan to settle in areas where the war has stopped, especially around Kyiv, the country's capital.

The United Nations predicts that more than eight million Ukrainians may leave the country this year.
